Handmade Afghan Farhan Ziegler Rug

This Farhan Ziegler goes back to the classic medallion-and-field structure, done in a soft, restrained palette. A slate blue field carries a central ivory medallion with scalloped edges, surrounded by loose, naturalistic floral sprays in camel and warm brown that scatter across the ground without locking into a rigid repeat, much closer to a hand-drawn garden than a strict grid. A wide ivory border, filled with the same florals and framed by a slim guard stripe, closes the whole piece off cleanly.

Getting that "naturalistic" scatter to look intentional rather than random is one of the harder parts of weaving this style, since the florals have to feel balanced across the field even though they're not repeating in a fixed pattern. Every vine and blossom here was hand-knotted through Kelim Shop's own production based in Afghanistan, with our weavers spacing the florals by eye to keep the field feeling full but never crowded.

The cool slate blue ground gives this piece a calmer, more contemporary feel than a warmer camel or red Ziegler, while still carrying all the traditional floral detail that defines the pattern family.
