The motif in this Farhan is what really sets it apart, those tall, curved shield-and-leaf forms in ivory and camel that arch upward like stylized tulips or acanthus leaves, closer in spirit to the Morris-style pieces we've listed than to a standard Persian palmette. A soft slate blue field is crossed by a fine diagonal trellis, with the shield motifs planted at each major intersection, connected by curling vines and small burgundy accent flowers. It's a more architectural, plant-like design than a typical scrolling repeat, and the effect is closer to a stylized garden than a dense floral carpet.
Getting those large curved shield shapes to sit cleanly within the trellis structure, without breaking the geometry, takes careful proportioning at the loom. Every shield motif and trellis line in this rug was hand-knotted through Kelim Shop's own production based in Afghanistan, with our weavers keeping the curves smooth and consistent across the full field.
The cool slate blue ground gives the piece a calm, contemporary feel despite its traditional roots, and the ivory border, filled with the same leaf and floral motifs, keeps the framing light rather than heavy.
A few specifics:
- Hand-knotted in Afghanistan through Kelim Shop's own weaving operation
- Genuine wool, chosen for clean, crisp curve definition
- Diagonal trellis with tall shield-shaped palmette motifs at each intersection
- Slate blue field with camel, ivory, and burgundy accents
- Matching ivory border with coordinating leaf and floral motifs
- Handmade variation means every rug is genuinely one of a kind
- Well suited to traditional, Arts and Crafts, or transitional interiors
If you like a traditional rug with a more architectural, plant-inspired motif rather than a standard floral repeat, this shield-and-trellis Farhan is a distinctive choice.

How can Kelimshop offer such low prices?
We keep our prices very low because there are no middlemen. We have our own production units in Afghanistan and Pakistan, allowing us to work directly from production to customer.
Many traditional retailers buy their rugs from wholesalers or other suppliers, which means extra margins are added at each stage before the rug reaches you. At Kelimshop, we cut out those extra steps and costs, so we can offer authentic, high-quality rugs at much better prices.
Can I see or feel the rug before I buy?
Yes, you can see and feel the rug by visiting our showroom in the Netherlands. You can simply make an appointment by calling +31614545999, by emailing us at kelimshop@gmail.com, or by using the contact form on our Contact Us page.
We understand that choosing a rug online can be difficult. If you would like more information, additional photos or help understanding the colours and texture of a particular rug, please contact us before ordering. We will do our best to help you choose with confidence.
How do I know if the rug will look right in my home?
Check the measurements on the product page and compare them with the space in your room before ordering. We also recommend viewing the product photos carefully, as they show the colours, pattern and overall character of the rug. If you are unsure about a particular rug, Contact Us and we will be happy to help.
