Handmade Afghan Traditional Rug

This piece takes the classic Persian floral medallion layout and pushes it as far into a whisper-soft finish as the design will allow. A series of rounded floral medallions, connected by fine trailing vines, are still faintly traceable across the sand-colored field, but the color has been washed down so evenly that the whole rug reads more as a soft, textured solid than a patterned carpet. A slim double-line border in the same tonal family closes the piece off without introducing any real contrast.

Achieving a wash this even and this consistent, especially with the medallion outlines still just barely legible throughout, takes real control at the finishing stage.
