This Kashkuli Tribal Handmade Rug takes a two-part approach to design. A deep ivory border runs around the entire piece, filled with dozens of tiny individual panels, each one holding a different small motif in navy, mustard, olive, or red. Step inward and the pattern shifts entirely, opening into wide horizontal bands of olive green, dusty mauve, and brick red, each striped with small repeating symbols.
That contrast, ornate border against a simpler striped field, is a hallmark of Kashkuli weaving, a style rooted in the nomadic tribal groups of the region. Every panel and every band in this rug was hand-knotted by weavers working through Kelim Shop's own production in Afghanistan, which means the labor-intensive border alone represents a significant chunk of the total knotting time.
Because we handle production ourselves rather than buying through outside traders, we're able to offer a piece this detailed at a price that reflects the actual work involved, not an inflated retail markup.
The muted, earthy palette here, olive, mauve, mustard, sets this rug apart from the brighter reds and blues typical of other Afghan styles. It leans naturally toward warm, grounded interiors and pairs easily with wood tones, linen, and other natural materials.
Why this rug works:
- Hand-knotted in Afghanistan through Kelim Shop's own production
- Genuine wool, built for durability and natural texture
- Ornate figural border framing a striped, banded field
- Earthy palette of olive, mauve, mustard, and brick red
- Handmade variation makes every rug one of a kind
- Fair, direct pricing through our own weavers
- A natural fit for warm, earthy, or naturalistic interiors
The Kashkuli style proves that tribal weaving doesn't need bold color to feel rich. Sometimes it's the structure and detail that carry the design.

How can Kelimshop offer such low prices?
We keep our prices very low because there are no middlemen. We have our own production units in Afghanistan and Pakistan, allowing us to work directly from production to customer.
Many traditional retailers buy their rugs from wholesalers or other suppliers, which means extra margins are added at each stage before the rug reaches you. At Kelimshop, we cut out those extra steps and costs, so we can offer authentic, high-quality rugs at much better prices.
Can I see or feel the rug before I buy?
Yes, you can see and feel the rug by visiting our showroom in the Netherlands. You can simply make an appointment by calling +31614545999, by emailing us at kelimshop@gmail.com, or by using the contact form on our Contact Us page.
We understand that choosing a rug online can be difficult. If you would like more information, additional photos or help understanding the colours and texture of a particular rug, please contact us before ordering. We will do our best to help you choose with confidence.
How do I know if the rug will look right in my home?
Check the measurements on the product page and compare them with the space in your room before ordering. We also recommend viewing the product photos carefully, as they show the colours, pattern and overall character of the rug. If you are unsure about a particular rug, Contact Us and we will be happy to help.
