Handmade Afghan Super Qazak Heritage Rug

This Super Qazak takes a more structured approach than the all-over versions we've listed before, built around a single large ivory diamond medallion set dead center, packed tight with its own nested geometric detail. Around it, the lavender-grey field is scattered with an irregular constellation of smaller tribal diamonds, star bursts, and cross forms in brick red, navy, terracotta, and sage, none of them lining up in strict rows, which gives the field a looser, more organic rhythm than a classic repeat. The whole piece is closed off by a wide navy border stacked with its own diamond lattice, then framed again by a narrower ivory and red guard band.

Balancing a strong central medallion against a busy, scattered field like this is one of the harder layouts to weave cleanly, since nothing here is meant to line up in a predictable grid. Every medallion, star, and border motif in this rug was hand-knotted through Kelim Shop's own production in Afghanistan, with our weavers working the placement by eye to keep the composition feeling intentional rather than cluttered.

The lavender-grey ground is what pulls the whole thing together, cooling down the warm reds and terracottas enough that the piece reads as rich and layered rather than chaotic.
