Handmade Afghan Vintage Heritage Rug

This piece comes from North Afghanistan and takes the vintage-wash approach about as far as it can go. What would traditionally have been a defined scrolling vine and palmette pattern has been muted almost to the point of disappearing, leaving a faint grey tracery over a soft ivory field. Every stage of this rug was hand-knotted through Kelim Shop's own production in North Afghanistan, with our weavers and finishers working to soften the original scrollwork into this quiet, weathered tone rather than leaving it bold and defined.
